We were so excited when The Z Hall came up on our calendar, because it has more history than almost any spot we visit as Detroit wedding photographers. The hall sits in Owosso, a charming small city in the middle of Michigan. It has been a gathering place for more than a century. Walk inside and you can feel all the celebrations that came before. It is the kind of place that makes you slow down and smile.

The building began in 1916 as a lodge for the local Czech community. Back then it was known as ZCBJ Hall, and families met there for dances, dinners and big community nights. Today it has been carefully restored into a rustic wedding venue. Warm brick and rich wood fill the main hall. The old character is still there, but now it shines with fresh, modern touches that make planning so much easier.

Couples love how much this place can do. There are four different rooms, each with its own purpose, plus a lush garden that is perfect for an outdoor ceremony. The main hall can hold a big crowd, and there is a lovely dressing room for getting ready. Local readers of The Argus Press even voted it the best wedding venue in Shiawassee County. It is easy to see why. Every corner feels cozy, welcoming and full of stories.

Joshua and Hannah’s Whimsical Garden Wedding

Joshua and Hannah met during their very first week of college. Their dorm rooms were right across the hall from each other, and they just clicked. Within three weeks they were dating, and they have been best friends ever since. They love traveling, trying new foods and finding new campsites, but they are homebodies at heart. Cozy hobbies, friendly game nights and teasing each other about their favorite weird TV shows fill most of their time together.

Their wedding plans matched their personalities perfectly. They dreamed of a ceremony in a garden full of flowers, with a reception surrounded by brick and wood.
