The building has a rich history. It dates back to the late 1880s, when it was a popular stop along the stagecoach route to New York City. Travelers would stop here to rest and refresh. Today, Travelers Rest still offers that same warm welcome, now for wedding guests instead of stagecoach riders.

Outside, the grounds are full of color. There are finely kept lawns, bright flower displays and about an acre of formal gardens. Couples can say their vows in the back gardens with the waterfall behind them. Another option is the gazebo, with guests seated on the lawn. Garden paths lead to new photo spots at every turn. In spring and summer, the blooms here are simply stunning.

Inside, charming fireplaces and elegant lighting set a cozy mood. Four rooms can host gatherings of different sizes, up to about 200 guests in connected rooms. The Crystal Room has a textured granite fireplace that makes a lovely backdrop for an indoor ceremony. The ballroom offers a more formal fireplace and mantle. Every room has a warm, welcoming feel that guests notice right away.

Julie and Joshua met on a dating app. Texts quickly turned into long phone calls. They lived an hour and a half apart, so they met halfway in New York City for their first dates. They explored the city together, saw theatre shows, visited museums and tried new food and coffee spots. We love a good city love story. Their story is full of little adventures, and we love that.

They both love hiking and being out in nature. They have toured many historic homes together too. So it is no surprise that Joshua proposed at the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. They also enjoy reading and board games. A historic venue with gardens fits this couple perfectly. Their shared love of history made this setting feel meant to be.

Julie loves the color green, especially the deep greens of nature. Bridesmaids wore sage, and the groomsmen wore blue suits. The flowers were white, green and light pink.
