Flowers, winding paths and a whole lot of history make Lilacia Park a dream spot for engagement photos. Our Chicago team jumped at the chance to bring our engagement photography services out to Lombard for Dimitri and Alexys. The park sits right in the heart of the village, next to the Lombard train station. It covers about eight and a half acres of gardens, lawns and shady trees. It feels like a secret garden tucked into the suburbs.

Lilacia Park has a sweet backstory. It began as the private garden of Colonel William Plum and his wife, Helen. After a trip to France, they brought home two lilac cuttings from the famous gardens of Victor Lemoine. Those two little cuttings grew into a huge collection. When Colonel Plum passed away, the grounds were left to the village as a public park for everyone to enjoy.

Today the park is home to more than two hundred kinds of lilacs and dozens of tulip varieties. Every May, Lombard celebrates Lilac Time, when the blooms fill the air with color and scent. The park also has a greenhouse, a historic building and plenty of peaceful spots to wander. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and it is easy to see why locals love it so much.

Dimitri and Alexys’ Love Story

Dimitri and Alexys met on Hinge. Their first date was at a Mexican restaurant in Arlington Heights, and Alexys says Dimitri treated her like a queen from the very start. That has not stopped one bit. Dimitri proposed at the Botanic Garden, right on the Japanese Garden bridge. How romantic is that?

These two are true nature lovers. They enjoy hiking, long walks at the forest preserves and trips to local farmers markets. They love the little moments in life and cherish their quality time together. They are also full time plant parents, and they are getting married in a garden. So a scenic outdoor spot for their engagement photos was a must, and Lilacia Park fit them perfectly. By the end, most couples forget the camera is even there.
