Stained glass, carved wood, and a true love story built into the walls make The Victorian Belle Mansion one of a kind. Our Portland wedding photographers adore this historic home. It sits on North McClellan Street in North Portland, only about ten minutes from downtown and close to the airport. That makes it easy for local guests and travelers alike to arrive without any fuss.
The history here is pure romance. Ship captain and local merchant David Cole built the mansion in 1885 as a wedding gift for his bride, Amanda. Over a century later, the home was lovingly restored and opened as an event space. Today The Victorian Belle still shows off ornate original woodwork, gingerbread trim, and a rare collection of Povey Brothers stained glass windows. Inside, the parlor and fireside room are filled with velvet furniture and vintage details that feel straight out of the 1880s.
Outside, about two and a half acres of manicured grounds wrap around the house. Couples can say their vows at the ceremony pavilion, in the colorful garden, or on the green lawn. A brick terrace with a cherub fountain is perfect for cocktails, and a row of laurel trees adds even more charm. The venue also has its own chef and staff, so food, setup, and service are all handled on site. It is especially lovely in fall and during the holidays.
A Dark Romantic Fall Wedding for Robert & Ashlie
Robert and Ashlie met online on Halloween night in 2019. Because of covid, they waited more than a year to meet in person, and their first meeting was a Christmas gift exchange outside her apartment with masks on. They talked nearly every day, played video games, watched shows together over the phone, and shared long, deep talks. They both love horror movies, and every year they visit Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios for their anniversary. That is even where Robert proposed!
Their wedding style fits them perfectly. They chose a dark romantic, classic look with Victorian touches and rich autumn colors like orange, brown, burgundy, and purple. Ashlie planned to wear a black lace Victorian style gown with Chuck Taylors, which we think is amazing. A mansion like this was the perfect match for their vision.
As a wedding photographer team, we love moody, romantic weddings. Deep colors, old wood, and stained glass light create rich images with so much character. Our studio is based in Portland, and we photograph weddings all over Oregon, from the coast to the mountains.
