Calm water, leafy shores and wide open sky make Spy Pond one of our favorite hidden gems near the city. Our Boston team loved bringing our engagement photography services there for Daniel and Emily. The pond sits close to the center of Arlington, just a short trip from Boston. It is peaceful, local and full of natural beauty. Locals come here to walk, bike, paddle and simply slow down for a while.

Spy Pond is a big one, covering more than one hundred acres. It formed long ago when a glacier melted and left a deep hollow behind that filled with water. Today, the shoreline offers grassy spots, shady trees and lovely views across the water. A small island called Elizabeth Island sits in the pond and is now protected for conservation. It is a lovely view from almost any spot along the edge.

The pond has plenty of history too. Back in the 1800s, ice cut from Spy Pond was shipped as far away as India. Today it is a peaceful place for walkers and bird watchers, with many kinds of birds stopping by through the year. The Minuteman Bikeway runs right alongside it, which makes it easy to reach and fun to explore. For engagement photos, the mix of water, trees and soft light is simply perfect.

Daniel and Emily’s Story

Daniel and Emily met through a mutual friend. We love when the people in your life help lead you to the one! These two enjoy going out, traveling and spending time on Lake Winnipesaukee. They also share their home with two sweet dogs, Rylee and Oakley. We can only imagine how much fun those two pups add to everyday life.
