The Barn at Ballard Creek Wedding | Jessica & Michael

Tucked into the rolling countryside of southern Minnesota, The Barn at Ballard Creek is a spot our Minneapolis wedding photographers truly adore. It sits just south of Mankato near the small town of Good Thunder. Quiet roads, open meadows and big oak trees set a calm and happy mood. It feels like a peaceful escape from city life.

The heart of the property is a lovingly restored barn from the early nineteen hundreds. Inside, tall rafters, rough cut beams and warm wood finishes create a cozy and inviting space. The Barn at Ballard Creek offers a lower level historic parlor and a spacious upper loft, so couples can pick the space that fits their plans. A real ivy wall and plenty of rustic decor add even more charm.

Outside, the grounds are just as lovely. Couples can say their vows at the oak woodland ceremony site surrounded by trees. A wrap around balcony, flower fields and a courtyard give guests plenty of space to mingle. There is a bridal cottage and a groom’s cabin for getting ready, and you may even spot the farm’s Highland cows nearby. The Barn at Ballard Creek wedding experience is a dream for anyone who loves rustic beauty.

Jessica and Michael’s Country Western Wedding

Jessica and Michael met on Bumble. They talked for about a month before meeting in person, and they met up the very same day Jessica came home from California. Just one month into dating, the pandemic arrived. Their love held strong through it all. Today they love being outdoors, fishing, grilling, watching movies and playing board games. Their dog keeps them busy and is always right by their side.

Their wedding had a country western theme with a warm fall feel. The colors were auburn orange and twilight blue, and everyone in the wedding party wore boots. Jessica’s vision was simple. She wanted to enjoy the whole night, laugh, celebrate and create a beautiful rustic look. Their photos were edited in our Rustic style, which adds warm tones that suit a fall barn wedding so well.

A country western theme is so much fun to capture. Boots, warm colors and rustic details bring a relaxed, happy energy to the whole day. Fall in southern Minnesota adds golden fields and crisp air, which pairs perfectly with a historic barn. It is cozy, joyful and full of personality.

Barn weddings in the fall are some of our favorite days to photograph. Golden light, warm wood and cozy details make every photo feel rich and inviting. We look for the real moments too, like a shared laugh or a boot stomping dance. Our videographers love these celebrations because the music and laughter tell such a fun story. Our team is based in Minneapolis, and we photograph weddings across the entire state of Minnesota. For more rustic inspiration, check out our blog.

Minneapolis Wedding Photographers at Ballard Creek

Original Weddings is a hardworking team of Minneapolis wedding photographers who love every corner of Minnesota. Minneapolis is our home base, and our team travels wherever couples need us. We often photograph weddings in Saint Paul, Bloomington, Stillwater, Rochester and Mankato, plus many small towns along the way. Heading down to The Barn at Ballard Creek was a highlight for our team, and the drive through the countryside always puts us in a great mood. The countryside around Mankato is especially pretty in the fall. Golden fields, changing leaves and big open skies give us beautiful natural backdrops, and a historic barn adds even more character to every portrait.

Rustic barns are a perfect match for our photographers. We know how to work with warm wood tones, open doors and soft window light. We stay relaxed and friendly, so couples feel comfortable from the very first photo. Original Weddings focuses on honest emotion, natural color and images that feel timeless. We guide couples when they need it and let real moments happen the rest of the time. From the getting ready rooms to the last song of the night, we want to capture the full story of the day. It means so much to us when couples look back on their photos and smile.

Minneapolis Wedding Videographers at Ballard Creek

Original Weddings also has a skilled team of Minneapolis wedding videographers. Our filmmakers are based in Minneapolis and travel across Minnesota for couples, from Saint Paul and Bloomington to Rochester and Mankato. Filming Jessica and Michael’s country western celebration at The Barn at Ballard Creek was a blast for our crew.

A wedding film keeps the sounds and feelings of the day close forever. It saves the vows, the toasts and the boots hitting the dance floor. Our videographers work quietly, so couples can relax and enjoy every minute with their loved ones. Afterward, we shape the footage into a story that feels personal and easy to watch again and again. We choose music that matches the mood of the day. Original Weddings believes a film should bring back the joy of the celebration every single time. Years from now, couples can press play and feel the fun of their big day all over again.
