Gramercy Mansion Carriage House History
The Gramercy Mansion estate, including its Carriage House, was built in 1902 by Alexander J. Cassatt, then president of the Pennsylvania Railroad, as a wedding gift for his daughter. The Carriage House originally housed up to 18 horses. Over the decades, the estate passed through various prominent families, including the Brewsters, and even served as the home of the Koinonia Foundation, a predecessor to the Peace Corps, which established Maryland’s first organic farm there. In 1985, Anne and Ron Pomykala purchased and meticulously restored the property, transforming it into the bed and breakfast and event venue it is today.
Gramercy Mansion Carriage House Wedding Cost
Weddings at Gramercy Mansion Carriage House offer a more intimate setting than the main mansion. Rental rates for the Carriage House generally range from $1,500 to $3,500 during the peak season (April-December) and $1,000 to $2,500 in the winter (January-March). These prices typically cover a four-hour rental, tables, and chairs. A separate ceremony fee of $500 includes chair setup and cleanup. Additional hours can be added for a fee. Prices are subject to change and discounts may be available for last-minute bookings or midweek events.
Gramercy Mansion Tower Room
The Tower Room is one of the elegant guest rooms within the main Gramercy Mansion, available for overnight stays. This third-floor bed and breakfast retreat is characterized by its golden light and Renaissance-inspired decor. It features a four-poster, king-size bed and an antique, inlaid electric fireplace creating a cozy seating area. The spacious Italian-tiled bathroom boasts a separate walk-in shower and the Mansion’s largest double whirlpool tub, offering a luxurious and private escape for guests.
Gramercy Mansion Wine Dinner
Gramercy Mansion regularly hosts delightful wine dinners, often in collaboration with Chef’s Expressions at the Manor. These themed events feature multi-course menus expertly paired with selected wines, often focusing on specific regions or culinary themes (e.g., French, California, Spanish). Guests can enjoy a sophisticated dining experience in the beautiful Atrium of the Mansion. These events typically require reservations and offer a unique opportunity to experience the Mansion’s ambiance and gourmet cuisine. Special offers for overnight stays may be available for event attendees.
